2023 Scholarship Winners

We are excited to announce the 2023 HERo and Crew Scholarship Winners!

The LTC Jaimie E. Leonard Warwick Crew Member Scholarship ($1500.00)

This scholarship is awarded to a coach-nominated Warwick High School Crew athlete (male or female) who is awesome, humble, and able to persevere in the face of challenges, a mentor to others, someone who does not give up. The winner of this scholarship is recognized as someone who values the camaraderie of the sport.  The Warwick Crew Coach selects the winner of this scholarship.

Alexandra Blanchard

Alexandra Blanchard received the $1,500 LTC Jaimie E. Leonard Warwick Crew Member Scholarship. She is a senior and Captain of the crew team. She comes to all practices and races. She even drove herself to the novice race (race just for new kids) to help the coaches and athletes with the new Crew members. She is always helping the newer rowers as well as all members on the team.  She will be attending University of Miami in the fall.

The HERo Scholarship ($2500.00) for Excellence in Community Service

This scholarship is awarded to a Warwick High School student who represents intelligence, leadership and concern for his/her community. Special consideration will be given to students who are actively making a difference in their community.  We also consider if the student has overcome certain obstacles in their lifetime, however this is not a requirement.

Brooke Sullivan

Brooke Sullivan was awarded the $2500.00 HERo Scholarship. Brooke hopes to continue Jaimie’s legacy through her community service and in my everyday life. Following graduation from Warwick Valley High School in June, she will continue to volunteer her time over the summer with the youth in Warwick. She will also work as a lifeguard in Warwick as well as an assistant teacher at a local preschool. Starting in the fall, she will be attending Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey, majoring in Business and Technology. Brooke has been invited into the Lawrence T. Babbio ’66 Pinnacle Scholars Program at Stevens. She will be a student athlete, playing on the Women’s Lacrosse Team at Stevens in the MAC Freedom Conference. Brooke plans to continue involvement in a variety of sectors of community service as a college student and hopes to have a positive impact on her new college community.

Congratulations to Alexandra and Brooke, and to all this year’s outstanding applicants for their tremendous achievements!
